Q: What inspired you to start learning your instrument?
A: My cousin gave me a keyboard that he no longer wanted, which came with some starter books on learning the piano. When I had learned all I could from the books, I realized I wanted to go further and had found my passion for learning the piano. Therefore the keyboard inspired me to learn the piano.
Q: What do you enjoy most about playing your instrument?
A: I enjoy the fact that I like all aspects of learning the piano. I like the theory and practical parts equally and have found that if you don't like what you are learning, your passion will fade.
Q: What advice would you give to someone performing for the first time?
A: My advice to someone performing for the first time would be not to panic. When you panic it is easy to forget everything except panicking! Even with the music in front of you and it all coming back, a little voice still says panic! The trick is to picture yourself in your practice room and to treat it as another practice. Then on stage, you will feel more relaxed.
Q: What are your musical aspirations?
A: I aspire to pass grade 8 piano and to compose a few small pieces of music. These pieces do not have to become famous, as long as I am happy with them.
When she is not practicing the piano, Thea enjoys reading, writing, drawing, playing with friends and just generally having fun.
